About the Illustrator Course

Students will complete 7 different projects including a corporate identity package (logo and letterhead), realty development map, a full color brochure, and more. The trainer will show you step-by-step how Professional Illustrators use Adobe Illustrator on a range of different design jobs. This approach not only teaches you proper workflow techniques but is also a proven training method for those looking to master Illustrator.

Project 1: Drawing Basics

  • Using Raster Images as Drawing Templates
  • Creating and Managing basic Shapes and Lines
  • Transforming Objects’ Color, Position, and Shape
  • Cloning Objects to Reduce Repetitive Tasks
  • Using Layers to Organize & Manage Complex & Artwork
  • Drawing Complex Shapes by combining Simple Shapes

Project 2: Advanced Drawing Techniques

  • Drawing Complex Custom Shapes Using the Pen Tool
  • Editing Anchor Points and Handles to Control the Precise Position of Vector Paths
  • Drawing Irregular Shapes with the Blog Brush Tool
  • Creating a Custom Color Scheme using Swatches
  • Adding Interest and Depth using Color Gradients
  • Adjusting Color in Selections and Globally
  • Saving Multiple Versions for different Print Applications

Project 3: Developing a Corporate Identity Package

  • Develop a Logo based on a Photograph
  • Using a Gradient a Mesh to create Realistic Color Blends
  • Converting Type to Outlines & Manipulating to create Logo Type
  • Using Layers to easily Manage Complex Artwork
  • Creating Multiple Artboards to Handle specific Projects & Layouts
  • Saving EPS files
  • Printing Desktop Proofs

Project 4: Creating a Ski Resort Map

  • Managing Swatches, Brushes & Symbols
  • Applying & Controlling Brush Strokes
  • Saving Libraries of Custom Assets
  • Using Symbol Libraries created by Others
  • Creating and editing Symbols & Symbol Instances
  • Replacing Symbols in Placed Instances
  • Creating Clipping Masks

Project 5: Creating a Letterfold Brochure

  • Creating a Template
  • Placing and Managing Links to External Graphics & Images
  • Importing Client-supplied Text and Controlling Flow across Multiple Frames
  • Working with Styles to Automate Repetitive Tasks
  • Correct Typography Problems such as Windows
  • Formatting Tabbed Text for Better Readability
  • Exporting PDF files of Specific Artboards for Print

Project 6: Creating a Cereal Box

  • Sampling Colors to Create Custom Swatches
  • Place a Variety of External Images in Locations to meet Package Design Requirements
  • Create Type on Irregular Path
  • Control Object Blending Modes and Opacity
  • Using Warp and 3rd Effects to add Depth to Artwork
  • Working with Raster Effect Settings
  • Flattening Transparent Effects
  • Previewing 3D Artwork

Project 7: Consumer Infographics

  • Creating Graphics to Present Data in a Visual Format
  • Editing Graphic Data to Change the Appearance of the Graph
  • Importing Data form an External File
  • Managing Fills, Legends & Labels to make Graphs more Visually Appealing
  • Defining a Perspective Grid
  • Putting Objects into Perspective
